I am serving the University of Nottingham Malaysia. My current job appointment is Professor of Chemical and Process Engineering. Currently I serve as the Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering which has 4 engineering departments, 6 science schools and 2 foundation units and the faculty has 170 academic staff members and 60 support staff members. Previously I served in a number of major managerial roles such as Interim Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences from 2019-2020 where I was responsible of leading the 10 schools in Arts and Social Sciences and ensured smooth faculty operation until I handed over the role to the new Dean. I served as Head of Department (HoD) of Chemical and Environmental Engineering from 2016-2019 where I was responsible for staff and student management, adhering to the UK and local accreditation requirements, ensuing the programmes meet the internal QA rules and requirements. Prior to that, I served as Associate Dean of Faculty of Engineering from 2014-2016, where I was responsible for quality assurance, accreditation for all 4 engineering departments, as well as external engagement, business engagement, student recruitment and programme marketing.
I am active in external professional works, I serve as an Associate Director for the Accreditation Department of BEM (Board of Engineers Malaysia), responsible in reviewing and moderating the accreditation report of all chemical engineering programmes offered in Malaysia, providing input and support to the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia and contribute to the Engineering Accreditation Standard. In addition, I also serve as the Leader of Chemical Working Group for BEM (Board of Engineers Malaysia) PCE (Professional Competency Examination) committee, responsible in overseeing the PCE for chemical discipline.
In term of research, I have worked on fluidised bed technology for many years since 1998 and has extended my interest into industrial drying which includes heat pump assisted drying and low temperature drying. My recent research activities include drying of herbal product using low temperature heat pump assisted solar drying and heat pump assisted drying, edible birdnest drying using low temperature drying technique and application of drone in detecting gas and spraying of chemicals. I have more than 20 years of experience in R&D, especially in the area of industrial drying, food and bioproduct processing and fluidised bed. I have extensive experience in various areas related to these fields namely diffusion, product quality such as colour change, physical appearance, textural properties, retention of bio-active ingredients; product safety, powder characteristics, handling of powder, powder mixing, extraction. Further, I have designed a number industrial dryer including fluidized bed dryers, low temperature dryers and intermittent dryer for various types of product
